The 2023 NCKU autumn campus recruitment saw continued enthusiasm in the semiconductor and optoelectronics industries.
According to the latest "Semiconductor Industry Talent White Paper 2023" released by 104 Job Bank, the demand for talent in the semiconductor industry has decreased by 40% compared to the previous year. However, the industry still faces a long-term talent shortage, with around 23,000 job openings per month, and salary and benefits continue to rise. Besides salary considerations, factors such as growth environment, diverse learning resources, transportation convenience, and post-work life quality remain emphasized by various companies.
This year's recruitment event did not require a doctoral degree, but there were questions from students about the impact of pursuing a Ph.D. on career development. Employers shared that income during Ph.D. studies is typically lower than that of peers who enter the workforce earlier, potentially missing out on over 10 million NT dollars in the semiconductor industry. However, having a Ph.D. when entering the job market may result in more specialized tasks and a broader perspective, depending on individual choices.
NCKU, with its comprehensive university structure and advantages in interdisciplinary learning, remains a preferred source of talent for the corporate sector. Alumni returning to share their experiences encouraged current students to explore interdisciplinary knowledge during their academic years, emphasizing the importance of utilizing the university's resources to expand career development possibilities.
