[NCKU BOOKS ONE CITY] -MOBILE LIBRARY Carrying Out University Social Responsibility in Rural Countries
Because of the severe pandemic, the final performance of the course [NCKU BOOKS ONE CITY] -MOBILE LIBRARY was conducted online. Han-Ching Wang, the Librarian of NCKU Library said that the mobile library is not the original one in people's impression anymore. So far, the volume capacity of NCKU Library has already reached 3.2 million. In addition to holding activities inside the library to attract NCKU students and Tainan citizens, it also took the initiative to get closer to the crowd, trying to make an impact on the city. During the process, students were able to research and experience the humanatic features of Tainan and Chiayi.
President Su indicated that NCKU mobile library has walked out of the campus since 2019, making the power of knowledge stronger; walking into the rural school to let students see the better version of themselves. Recently, facing the severe pandemic, NCKU hopes to have a new way to let students see opportunities in the aspect of learning.
The secretary-general of the CommonWealth Magazine Education Foundation said that CommonWealth Magazine has long been promoting reading in rural schools. This time, CommonWealth Magazine got the chance to cooperate with NCKU for the project of mobile library, and she was impressed by NCKU students’ hard work. Through the course activity, students in rural schools were able to learn advanced knowledge, and through games, they could fulfill their potential.
The manager of Dachan Great Wall Group indicated that [NCKU BOOKS ONE CITY] is a meaningful learning project. During the project, students will be educated about food safety and food and agriculture through activities, so that they can implicitly learn, and the social responsibility of enterprises can start from the source and take root downwards.
NCKU mobile library continued to conduct courses in 13 places among Chiayi and Tainan this year. The teachers led students from creative thinking, planning and design to creative practice and reflection, to plan many theme exhibitions, such as “economic games” , “the magic of light”,etc. They also match some books to their exhibition to introduce Tainan’s history, humanism and societal changes, and at the same time transmit knowledge to more people.
NCKU opened the course [NCKU BOOKS ONE CITY] - MOBILE LIBRARY two years ago, combining its library resources to develop courses. As the mobile library moved to rural schools, it could be able to spread knowledge to students. This year, though was under the bother of a pandemic, the mobile library still went to 13 districts in Tainan and Chiayi to conduct the courses, continuing to exchange and learn from each other with local community and schools, also carrying out the University Social Responsibility.
The course [NCKU BOOKS ONE CITY] - MOBILE LIBRARY not only possesses the meaning of carrying out USR, but also features “stepping out of the library and campus”, “stepping out of region boundaries”, and “ stepping into people’s heart”, and at the same time providing students with a chance to choose interdisciplinary courses.
