To promote Taiwanese, NCKU Center for Taiwanese Languages Testing raised one million NTD at home and abroad as the Taiwanese Awards. They held the donating ceremony at the Lecture Hall of the Dept. of Taiwanese Literature on August,12. The award will be used to encourage teachers and students to engage in Taiwanese teaching and research, being a pioneering deed in Taiwan.
According to Prof. Wi-Vun Chiung, the director of both NCKU Center for Taiwanese Languages Testing and Dept. of Taiwanese Literature, the award’s money was donated by many kind-hearted individuals and organizations. So far, nearly one million NTD has been raised, and in the future, there will be income from project donations every year. On the day of the donation ceremony, many donation representatives attended.
After the information about the Taiwanese Awards was announced, it got a lot of attention from people who care about Taiwanese. Doctor Yi-Cheng Huang who was born in Tainan entrusted Cheng-Hsiung Chen, the chairperson of Tainanese Pen to donate some funds to NCKU Center for Taiwanese Languages Testing for him. Ms. Shang, the candidate for Tainan mayor, proposed a policy of reviving Taiwanese languages, including setting up mother-tongue friendly bases, building Taiwanese languages film bases, and constructing Taiwanese languages business districts.
NCKU Center for Taiwanese Languages Testing has passed the regulations of rewarding teachers and students for engaging in Taiwanese Language teaching and research, and started to accept applications from now on. The recipients of this award include full-time and part-time teachers, college students, master’s students, Ph.D. students, and in-service master’s program students. There are 10 awards in total, among them, the highest prize is the award of a graduate thesis, which is 80,000 NTD per person.
