National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) and Tainan Highest Good Education Foundation held a signing ceremony for the "Sinology English Teaching Professional Development Program" and the "Moral Education Bilingual Picture Book Teaching Training Program" on January 10, 2024 (Wednesday). These two programs mark important milestones in the promotion of moral education, bilingual education, and Sinology culture.

The Sinology English Teaching Professional Development Program, spanning 3 years, is expected to allocate over NT$27 million to promote Sinology cultural education. In addition to providing blended online courses for teachers worldwide interested in teaching in both Chinese and English, the program will also develop four related course packages concurrently. The aim is to enable educators globally to appreciate the beauty of Sinology culture through English instruction, thereby expanding the reach of Sinology education.

The Moral Education Bilingual Picture Book Teaching Training Program, a continuation of the 2019-2021 Moral Education English Picture Book Bilingual Teaching Project and the teacher training program initiated in 2022, will span 2 years with an investment of nearly NT$3 million. Focused on "moral education," "bilingual education," and "picture book education," the third phase of the training program will organize workshops to train national educators to use bilingual picture books for bilingual moral education. The goal is to cultivate in more children the ability to discern right from wrong and to grasp bilingual proficiency necessary for international competition.

The signing ceremony was attended by NCKU President Meng-Ru Shen and Ms. Ying-Li Lin, Director and Executive Director of Zhi Shan Foundation (on behalf of Chairman Ven. Cheng Der), and witnessed by distinguished guests including NCKU Vice President Yuh-Neu Chen, Vice President for Academic Affairs Ray-Yeng Yang, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts Shin-Mei Kao, Associate Dean Chia-Huang Chen, Director of the Language Center Wen-Li Tsou, and faculty members from the Department of Chinese Literature, including Hai-Yan Yeh, Chang-Mo Hsu, and Yu-Cheng Liao, as well as Principal Tsui-Ling Lu from Ximen Elementary School.

In his remarks, President Shen likened education to sailing at sea, emphasizing the importance of having the right direction and method to achieve clear goals. He expressed his honor in collaborating with the Zhi Shan Foundation to systemize "life education" and "aesthetic education" into curricula, aimed at fostering students' abilities and qualities.

Executive Director Lin likened the signing of the cooperation agreement to opening a connector between wisdom and education. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate with NCKU, particularly highlighting the outlook for the Sinology English Teaching Professional Development Program. She anticipated that through curriculum planning and training, Sinology culture could transcend national and geographical boundaries, spreading Chinese cultural concepts worldwide.

These two programs, commencing on January 1, 2024, are expected to receive a total injection of approximately NT$30 million from NCKU, supporting the planning and implementation of the "Sinology English Teaching Professional Development Program" and the "Moral Education Bilingual Picture Book Teaching Training Program." Through close collaboration, NCKU and the Zhi Shan Education Foundation aim to promote Chinese culture and internationalize Taiwan's Sinology and moral education.
