With 264 companies offering over 12,000 job opportunities both domestically and internationally, the event attracted over tens of thousands of job seekers and recruiters, creating a vibrant job-seeking atmosphere. Despite the light rain in the morning, job seekers, including university students from as far as Hsinchu, aimed to secure better opportunities, particularly in foreign semiconductor companies. First-year students from NCKU expressed their desire to gain insights into industry trends early on to avoid missing internship opportunities in the future.

With the advantage of nurturing highly sought-after graduates, NCKU, in collaboration with ten other universities and colleges in southern Taiwan, hosts the Southern Employment Expo annually, drawing over ten thousand attendees each year. From March 7th to 9th, 48 company recruitment briefings were held consecutively, and on the 10th, the expo featured over 350 booths, marking the largest number in history. Major exhibitors included United Microelectronics Corporation, Garmin, AUO, Micron Taiwan, Formosa Plastics, Yageo, TSMC, Kingston, and many others, attracting numerous job seekers for inquiries. The semiconductor industry booths remained bustling, with companies emphasizing job flexibility, work-life balance, and employee welfare to appeal to young job seekers who prioritize these aspects over high salaries. Students visiting the expo also shared that learning about internship opportunities provided by companies allows them to gauge the level of care these companies have for young professionals, influencing their future career choices.

In 2024, NCKU's collaborative spirit, communication skills, and adaptability have earned recognition, with many companies considering the "Southern Employment Expo" as one of the main battlegrounds for recruitment. Vice President of NCKU, Yuh-Neu Chen, stated that since its founding in 1931, NCKU has been committed to meeting societal needs and national development by not only emphasizing high-quality professional knowledge but also nurturing excellent character traits. It's said that NCKU students are obedient, but they are by no means lacking in critical thinking. NCKU students are reserved, resilient in the face of setbacks, skilled in communication, problem-solving, and innovation, which are not only part of NCKU's culture but also the DNA that makes them perennial favorites among employers.

Hsin-Chi Wang, Director of the Department of Labor, Tainan City Government, expressed gratitude for NCKU's efforts in nurturing numerous talents and keeping hope in Tainan through the "Southern Employment Expo." With a wide range of industries in Tainan, including traditional and high-tech industries, the city currently serves as the dual-engine for the Southern Science Park and the Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City, encouraging everyone to stay in Tainan and work hard together.

Pang-Tung Liu, Director of the Yunlin-Chiayi-Tainan Branch, Workforce Development Agency, Ministry of Labor, mentioned that NCKU students are sincere, diligent, obedient, and exceptionally cohesive, possessing the characteristic of knowing each other's strengths and weaknesses. The job fair is not just for graduating students; freshmen to juniors should also take advantage of this platform provided by southern Taiwan's universities to learn and absorb energy together, believing that they can make good use of resources to create a better future.

Representatives from companies attending the opening ceremony on the morning of the 10th included Yang-En Wu, Vice President of AUO, Mei-Hui Liao, Director of Taiwan Applied Materials Corporation, Yu-Lin Hsiao, Chief Technologist of the LCY Group, and Bao-Ling Zhang, Vice President of 104 Job Bank. Some employers indicated that this year's recruitment is not only focusing on electrical engineering and information technology but also welcoming talents from humanities and business management backgrounds to join their staff and providing leadership training internships, hoping to jointly promote sustainable business initiatives.

With the expansion of overseas business by companies, some job seekers are targeting overseas job opportunities. To strengthen the diversity of recruitment, this year's job fair has a total of 156 companies with demands for doctoral graduates and 150 companies offering overseas job opportunities. The co-organizer, the Investment Commission of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (Contact TAIWAN), also set up a booth on-site to provide guidance for foreign students seeking employment in Taiwan.

The on-site recruitment activities lasted from 10 am to 3 pm. Some job seekers mentioned that due to the crowded venue, they were unable to obtain information from companies properly, while others unexpectedly found rewarding experiences. A student from the NCKU Material Science and Engineering Department shared that they wanted to learn about companies beyond semiconductor giants. After visiting the exhibition, they realized that material science graduates have many opportunities, including working at the National Space Organization.
