The National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) Library, in response to the evolving landscape of information channels and the changing needs of readers, initiated the "Dream into Reality, Building Dreams Solidly" two-phase spatial transformation project since 2019. The aim was to inject new vitality and functionality into the library, providing readers with a new space filled with creative design and knowledge dissemination. The large-scale space optimization project, launched in September 2023, was completed and inaugurated on the 2nd of this month. Several distinguished guests, including Han-Ching Wang, former director of NCKU Library and current director of the National Library of Taiwan, Yuh-Neu Chen, Vice President of NCKU, and Tzu-Fun Fu, Professor of Medical Laboratory Science and concurrently Library Director, attended the inauguration ceremony.

Professor Tzu-Fun Fu, in her speech, expressed gratitude to many individuals whose efforts have revitalized the NCKU Library and propelled it into a new phase. She highlighted the thoughtful and considerate designs incorporated into the new space, which not only address the needs of students but also consider the users' experiences. The new appearance and equipment inject a livelier and more dynamic atmosphere into the NCKU Library. She expressed hope that future events held at the NCKU Library would be enriched by its participation, contributing to a brighter future.

Vice President Yuh-Neu Chen remarked that NCKU has always been recognized as a school of science and technology, and the transformation of the library space brings wonder and delight, adding another scenic spot to NCKU. The library carries the expectations of many, making it particularly resonant. The new space energizes the environment, providing a venue for on-site knowledge exchange. He hoped that everyone would share in the achievements and continue to create beauty in the library.

Han-Ching Wang, former director of NCKU Library and current director of the National Library of Taiwan, spoke with a sense of returning home, stating that the process of growing up sometimes necessitates moving some elements out and letting new elements in, while the parts that are moved out are not forgotten but preserved. The library's transformation began by collecting the expectations of students and gradually realizing them. She also mentioned the three special meanings of the library: Re-generate, Re-connect, Re-create. The library is quite inclusive, and she hoped that readers could find their own books in the library, with each space in the library belonging to every reader.

In response to environmental and reader demand changes, the NCKU Library held the interactive special exhibition "One Hundred Possibilities of Dreaming into Reality" in 2018, inviting readers not only to view but also to write and graffiti in their exclusive "dream library." The NCKU Library listened to and collected the expectations and suggestions of faculty and students for the library, thereby promoting library innovation and implementing the creation of new spaces, services, and resources to better meet the needs of the entire faculty, staff, students, and readers, subsequently launching the "Dream into Reality, Building Dreams Solidly" two-phase spatial transformation plan.

The first phase of the spatial transformation project was completed in December 2020, providing a comfortable space and thematic exhibitions on the front half of the first floor. In 2021, the meditation and prayer area on the third floor was completed, providing a place for prayer for readers from diverse cultural backgrounds and different beliefs. Equipment and space updates were carried out in 2023, providing new discussion and video viewing spaces, among other features.

The second phase of the spatial transformation project began at the end of September 2023, with the library once again undertaking a large-scale optimization of the back half of the first floor. In addition to providing a comfortable and beautiful new space for more readers to engage in knowledge dissemination and academic exchange, the library was honored to receive a donation from ACER INCORPORATED Chairman and CEO Jason Chen, consisting of three eKinekt motion desks developed by its subsidiary, Acer Gadget Inc. Two of these desks were installed in the new space's leisurely conversation area, allowing teachers and students to relieve stress through exercise while reading and studying in the library. This equipment has been widely popular and frequently used by students since its opening. Additionally, gender-friendly restrooms were specially installed. The NCKU Library looks forward to faculty and students experiencing the brand-new creative design space and collectively creating a new history with the library.

On the afternoon of April 2nd, the inauguration ceremony for the completion of Phase Two Space Transformation of the NCKU Library was held. (Left: NCKU Vice President Yuh-Neu Chen, Right: NCKU Library Director Tzu-Fun Fu).
