The NCKU Museum’s exhibition "Reading NCKU: Campus Buildings Constructed During the US Aid Period" and Campus Bookstore Opening
In his speech, Assistant Vice President of NCKU and Director of the NCKU Museum, Ping-Sheng Wu, noted that Macronix Hall, where Liwen Campus Bookstore is located, is the newest innovation center at NCKU, donated by distinguished NCKU alumnus and Chairman of Macronix, Miin Wu. To the north of the bookstore lies the "Old NCKU Library" (Old K Building), a modernist architectural masterpiece from the post-war US aid period, as well as the administrative building, part of the school’s original facilities from its founding during the Japanese colonial period in 1931, now repurposed as the NCKU Museum. The bookstore and the museum together form a cultural and artistic axis on campus.
Assistant Vice President Wu mentioned that Sheng-Li and Cheng-Kung Campus were the core foundations of NCKU in its early years. During the initial stages of discussions with Liwen Bookstore, there was some adjustment due to unfamiliarity, but with the shared values of integration and mutual advancement, this innovative collaboration was successfully realized. The NCKU Museum curated the special exhibition "Reading NCKU: Campus Buildings Constructed During the US Aid Period" within the bookstore, as the US aid period played a key role in expanding NCKU’s campus and was crucial to its transformation into the comprehensive university it is today. He expressed hope that visitors, faculty, and students who come to Liwen Campus Bookstore will not only read books but also gain an understanding of NCKU’s history through the lens of both space and time.
Hong-Wen Yang, General Manager of Liwen Cultural Enterprise, stated that due to changes in the broader environment, physical publishing channels have faced many challenges in recent years, and Liwen Campus Bookstore is actively addressing the need for transformation. Although the initial discussions with the NCKU Museum were challenging, today they can proudly say that NCKU marks the starting point for Liwen Bookstore's physical channel transformation and serves as a model store. It is also the most beautiful campus bookstore in Taiwan.
General Manager Yang noted that the current Liwen Campus Bookstore at NCKU not only meets the essential needs of NCKU faculty and students but has also introduced new services such as e-books. The bookstore will also host new book launches and brand events. Furthermore, they are actively enhancing their online community services, working towards the integration of online and offline resources to meet and exceed the expectations of faculty and students.
The opening event was attended by several distinguished guests, including former Deputy Minister of Education and current professor at Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages, Professor Ching-Hwa Tsai; Director of Library and Information Services at National Kaohsiung Normal University, Yuan-Tse Yu; and Chairman of the Tainan City Publishers Association, Sen-Chou Wang , who represented the industry in offering their congratulations.
