To encourage faculty, staff, and students to actively participate in sports, foster connections, and enhance physical fitness, the Physical Education Office of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) organized the “113 NCKU Sports Season” to celebrate the university's 93rd anniversary. From September to December, a variety of sports activities and competitions, including stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), artificial turf tennis, spinning aerobics, and campus orienteering, have been planned. Today (21st), the lively “Tee-Ball” competition was held at the Kuang-Fu Campus sports field.
The Tee-Ball competition, organized for the first time by NCKU’s Physical Education Office, was designed with a fun and interactive approach. Its goals included fostering team spirit among participants and helping the organizing team gain event planning experience. Participation was limited to six teams. Initially concerned about low participation, the Physical Education Office was pleasantly surprised by the overwhelming response, with all slots filled within two days thanks to active promotion and full mobilization by the NCKU Baseball Team. Special thanks were extended to Yen-Tzu Huang and the NCKU Baseball Team for their assistance with venue planning, rule formulation, process arrangement, and scoring, which ensured the event ran smoothly from recruitment to execution. While the competition emphasized fun, certain professional rules were also incorporated.
During the opening ceremony, Academic Affairs Dean Sheng-Chih Shen highlighted the diverse activities of the NCKU Sports Season running from September to December and encouraged students to participate in various sports. He expressed hope that the Tee-Ball competition would help strengthen team unity and deepen friendships among players. Shen also reminded everyone to prioritize safety while enjoying the games.
As the competition unfolded, the participating teams showed great confidence. Cheers erupted when a grand slam was hit, and teammates offered reassuring words like “It’s okay, just relax!” after a missed swing. From the sidelines, shouts of “Run, run, run!”, “Missed catch!”, and “Back to base!” were frequently heard, showcasing the strong team spirit. Players also displayed excellent sportsmanship, applauding their opponents for good plays, embodying the essence of competitive sportsmanship.
The inaugural Tee-Ball championship was ultimately won by the "I want Shampoo" team from the Department of Chemical Engineering. Team members noted that despite limited preparation time, they believed teamwork and strong defense were key to their victory. They praised the event and expressed hope that next year’s organizers would allow more teams to participate, enabling even more students to enjoy this engaging competition.
