The 12th EMBA Intercollegiate Badminton Cup returned to NCKU after 10 years, with the event ending in double championships
Dean Yu-Xiang Huang of NCKU's College of Management expressed gratitude for the support from all participating schools and acknowledged the successful execution of the event. He emphasized the challenges and opportunities in organizing the event, from preparation to execution, and thanked Chong-hong Liu, the president of the EMBA Badminton Club, and his team for their tireless efforts to ensure the event’s success. He also thanked all participants and spectators for their enthusiastic involvement.
EMBA Honorary Chairman Zheng-kun Wang, who had participated in the first national EMBA badminton tournament 12 years ago, recalled how the event originally brought together badminton enthusiasts from EMBA programs across Taiwan. He emphasized that NCKU had won the first championship back then and was now proud to host the event once again after a 10-year gap, pledging full support for this year’s competition.
The event was divided into three categories: Competitive, Elite, and Excellence. NCKU triumphed in both the Competitive and Excellence categories, while National Taiwan University claimed the Elite category championship. Chong-hong Liu, president of the NCKU EMBA Badminton Club, expressed special thanks to the team members for their support and encouragement, which led to the double victory. He also thanked the coaches and players for their dedication, stating that their hard work was crucial to achieving such an accomplishment.
The event's theme, "Celebrating Tainan 400, Badminton Gathers at NCKU," not only commemorated Tainan’s 400th anniversary but also incorporated cultural significance and symbolized NCKU’s spirit through a design inspired by badminton and the university’s phoenix flower emblem.
The EMBA Intercollegiate Badminton Cup, held annually for 12 years, aims to promote badminton among EMBA alumni and strengthen inter-school exchanges and camaraderie. Over the years, it has also witnessed inspiring stories. One notable incident occurred during the first tournament, when a player suffered a sudden heart attack and lost vital signs. Professor Ji-ren Li from National Taiwan University quickly retrieved an AED (Automated External Defibrillator), and with Dr. Zheng-kun Wang's help, they performed emergency defibrillation and CPR, successfully saving the player's life. This act of cooperation and mutual assistance is still widely remembered and celebrated within the EMBA community.
Next year, the 13th EMBA Intercollegiate Badminton Cup will be hosted by Kaohsiung University. Director Wang Mingchang of the Kaohsiung University EMBA Center thanked NCKU for providing excellent facilities and services this year, ensuring the event’s success. Kaohsiung University is honored to host the 2025 EMBA National Badminton Cup, and the director emphasized their commitment to enhancing the event's scale, services, and participation. He also expressed his hope for continued support from EMBA alumni nationwide and gratitude for the ongoing promotion of badminton in the community. The year 2025 marks the 25th anniversary of Kaohsiung University’s founding and the 20th anniversary of its EMBA program, and Director Wang is eager to present an exceptional event in this significant year.
