Student Affairs Seminar at NCKU focused on "Accompanying and Supporting: Guiding Figures in University Life."
Vice President Yu-nu Chen expressed gratitude to the teachers for their hard work in guiding students beyond research and teaching duties, emphasizing that their efforts strengthen the school's support system. She encouraged teachers to seek assistance from the Student Affairs Office when needed.
Professor Lin highlighted the importance of advisors in supporting students' growth, especially in helping stabilize their academic journey. She discussed the diverse systems across universities, including full-time faculty advisors and intermediary guardians, emphasizing early intervention to prevent crises. She also mentioned the "psychological leave" policy, which increases opportunities for connecting with at-risk students and strengthens the campus support network.
Professor Lin concluded by discussing how to engage with Generation Z, quoting Italian novelist Italo Calvino, "You are pleased not by the seven or seventy wonders in the city, but by how the city answers the questions you pose." She pointed out that students appreciate a university not for its buildings but for how their questions are answered by advisors. The seminar concluded with a discussion between the Student Affairs Director and faculty members on challenges faced in student counseling.
The 113th Academic Year, First Semester Student Affairs and Counseling Workshop was held, during which awards were presented to the outstanding teachers in student counseling for the 112th Academic Year.
