The "Cool Stars" booth of National Cheng Kung University participated in the Kaohsiung Pride Parade Rainbow Party Market.
The "Cool Stars" booth, a collaboration between the Mental Health and Counseling Group, the Gender Equality Education Committee, and the To.Laku Society of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), will be present at the Kaohsiung Pride Parade Rainbow Party Market on November 23 and 24. This booth will showcase NCKU's efforts in promoting gender diversity and reducing inequalities, demonstrating the university's commitment to gender equality education beyond the campus. The goal is for people of all genders and identities to become cool and shining stars, illuminating each other.
The Kaohsiung Pride Parade, now in its 15th year, is the largest LGBTQIA+ event in southern Taiwan. This year’s theme is "Spread Love, Love Surges in Kaohsiung." As a gender-friendly higher education institution in the south, NCKU participates in mental health promotion activities, advocating for diversity and equality, improving the social environment for minority groups, and helping to promote gender equality development in the region. Through this, NCKU supports SDGs related to quality education, health and well-being, gender equality, and reducing inequalities, bringing gender diversity education beyond the campus.
This event marks the first time a national university administrative unit collaborates with student clubs to support gender diversity and inclusion, extending outreach from the "Tainan Pink Spot" to the Kaohsiung Pride Parade. The NCKU Mental Health Group emphasizes that participating in this activity was a decision made by the student society, using professional support to practice social justice counseling and build a more inclusive society. Although the passing of same-sex marriage legislation has lowered the attention on LGBTQIA+ discussions, gender equality is still just beginning.
At the "Cool Stars" booth, attendees can receive "NCKU Amulet" stickers and "Love is a Human Right" stickers. There will also be a DIY screen printing experience for canvas bags or drawstring bags. Participants can follow NCKU's Mental Health Group on Instagram and leave a supportive message for the rainbow community to join the DIY experience, where they can choose a favorite design to print on either a canvas or drawstring bag.
