National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) has been awarded the FISU Healthy Campus International Certification.
On November 25, 2024, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) was awarded the "Healthy Campus" international certification by the International University Sports Federation (FISU), becoming the first national research university in Taiwan to receive this honor. This recognition highlights NCKU's outstanding achievements in promoting campus health and solidifies its leadership position in international education.
NCKU has always prioritized the physical and mental well-being of students and faculty as a core goal. The Healthy Campus certification acknowledges the university's efforts in creating a vibrant, supportive, and active learning and working environment. From mid-September to early December, the university organized traditional sports events such as badminton, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, tennis, athletics, and swimming, alongside diverse fitness activities, including spinning, baseball, SUP promotion, boxing aerobics, and orienteering. These activities allowed all participants, regardless of age or fitness level, to enjoy the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
The FISU Healthy Campus certification, launched in May 2020, aims to encourage universities worldwide to establish healthier and more sustainable campus environments. It includes seven key areas: Healthy Campus Management, Physical Activity and Sport, Nutrition, Disease Prevention, Mental and Social Health, Risk Behavior Management, and Environment, Sustainability & Social Responsibility. These criteria help universities create a campus atmosphere that enhances the well-being and quality of life of students and faculty.
The certification process was driven by Professor Xian-Zhe Huang, Director of the Physical Education Office, who led the comprehensive review of campus resources and activities, implementing innovative solutions that ultimately led to successful certification. This achievement not only sets NCKU as a model for health campuses in Taiwan but also boosts the international image of Taiwanese higher education. NCKU has been invited by the Chinese Taipei University Sports Federation to share its experiences and promote exchanges among domestic universities to advance campus health and well-being.
Looking ahead, NCKU will continue to deepen the Healthy Campus concept, integrating technology and innovation to create an even healthier, more dynamic, and cohesive campus environment, providing the best support for the comprehensive development of students and faculty. This certification marks a significant milestone for NCKU, symbolizing Taiwan's advancement in international education and health promotion, and inspiring more universities to join the global movement toward healthier campuses.
