2024 NCKU Student Dormitory Christmas Lighting Ceremony and Appreciation Tea Party - A Warm and Festive Celebration
The Student Affairs Office of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) plans a series of Christmas activities every year to create a warm and enriching dormitory life. The goal is to foster a healthy campus environment that balances life, academics, and mental well-being while adding to the festive atmosphere at the end of the year. This year (2024), the university set up a 5-meter Christmas tree outdoors at the Victory Dormitory in the Sheng-Li Campus for the first time, as well as Christmas-themed decorations at the Kuang-Fu Dormitory in the Kuang-Fu campus and public spaces in the dormitories of the Jingye campus, creating a unique Christmas atmosphere at NCKU. The Christmas lighting ceremony and appreciation tea party, held on the 5th, marked the beginning of this year's Christmas activities. The beautifully decorated Christmas tree and fun interactive games attracted many students, creating a warm and festive atmosphere.
Director of Student Affairs, Liang-Yi Hung, expressed that Christmas is a time for reunion, sharing love, and warmth. He was happy to light the Christmas tree together with everyone and hoped that the dormitory's Christmas series of activities would convey happiness and joy. He also encouraged everyone to care for the friends around them and offer help to those in need or vulnerable groups. Hung invited everyone to take this time at the end of the year to thank the teachers or family and friends who had supported them throughout the past year, acknowledge their own achievements, set goals for the future, and work together to achieve more dreams.
During the Christmas lighting event, the dormitory services team also encouraged students to express their gratitude and best wishes in writing on Christmas cards. From December 12 to 20, the team delivered the cards and mystery gifts to designated recipients in the dormitory area, spreading love and warmth to every corner of the campus.
Among the students who participated in the "Christmas Lighting and Appreciation Tea Party," first-year master's student Yuan-Cheng Fan from the Microwave Components Industry Program in the Department of Electrical Engineering said the event was fun and interesting, and he wished everyone a Merry Christmas. Fourth-year Psychology student Pei-Yang Wu shared that lighting the Christmas tree with everyone made her feel very happy and warm inside. Fourth-year Foreign Languages student Yu-Qing Lin said that she felt truly fortunate this year, thanking her professors for writing recommendation letters, her friends for helping with study plans and interview practices, and for successfully being admitted to graduate school. She also expressed gratitude for the support and patience of the administrative staff while working on campus, which helped her improve her abilities and become more independent. Fourth-year Statistics student Zhi-Xuan Liao shared a funny story about encountering a gecko in the dormitory at night, which scared her so much she couldn’t sleep, but she was grateful for the patient assistance from the dormitory staff. She encouraged everyone to appreciate the help they receive and to lend a hand to others in need.
The Christmas tree and lights for the 2024 NCKU student dormitory Christmas series will be displayed until January 16, 2024. The lights will be on daily from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Other upcoming activities include a Winter Solstice Dumpling Party, a gift exchange, Year-end Warmth Sending, and a Dumpling Rolling Party co-hosted with the student union. All students are welcome to participate and enjoy the festive season and the coming New Year with joy.
