President Meng-Ru Shen Attended the Tainan Alumni Association Event to Celebrate the 34th Anniversary of Its Founding
Tainan Alumni Association President, I-Lin Hsu (Doctoral Graduate in Public Health, Class of 107), began his speech by highlighting that NCKU has reached its peak in terms of corporate donations and contributions to national development in recent years, and continues to grow. As an alumnus, he expressed his hope that NCKU will continue to thrive as it approaches its centennial. He also mentioned the ongoing development of the Shalun Medical Park, which will provide enhanced medical capacity to welcome the era of centenarians. He encouraged alumni to continue supporting the university's development, contributing both financially and through their efforts.
President Meng-Ru Shen, in his speech, emphasized that the development of higher education is crucial for talent cultivation and is a fundamental pillar of the nation. Since its establishment, NCKU has continuously moved forward with the efforts of each president and has enhanced its reputation with the support of its faculty, students, and alumni. He particularly acknowledged the resources contributed by alumni and expressed hope that, with continued support from alumni both financially and through their efforts, NCKU will further develop and prosper.
Director Rwei-Ling Yu from the Office of Strategic Planning then reported on the current status of the university. Last year, NCKU ranked first in Taiwan in the THE Impact Ranking, and also ranked first in industry-academic collaboration in the THE Asia University Rankings. In the past 5 years, NCKU has consistently ranked first in various surveys, including the "Most Favorite Universities by Enterprises" and "Most Favorite Students by Enterprises," showing a positive trend in progress. Director Yu also mentioned that there have been many changes on campus recently. Notably, the large banyan tree, a symbol of NCKU, has been pruned and is now healthier and more aesthetically pleasing. In addition, the campus has been beautified with large areas of planted flowers. He encouraged alumni to visit the campus when they have time to experience the vibrant atmosphere of progress. Looking ahead, NCKU has several key initiatives for the upcoming year, including the "Hope to Build Dreams and Assist Education" program to help disadvantaged students, the development of "Cutting-Edge Technology Teaching and Research," which includes new AI and quantum-related courses, as well as promoting "Physical Fitness for Students" to enhance the benefits of sports and creating a sustainable green campus. Director Yu expressed hope that alumni would continue to provide strong support for these endeavors.
Advisor of the NCKU Tainan Alumni Association, President Chin-Jung Lin of Jhih Guang Group, delivered a speech, stating that although he is not an NCKU alumnus, he was honored as an honorary alumnus of the university. As a result, he continues to donate several million NTD annually to NCKU’s campus development fund. He was also selected as a national representative for good deeds. President Lin emphasized that charitable donations should particularly help students from impoverished families. He encouraged alumni to actively participate and continue donating to support NCKU’s growth and development.
