NCKU has long excelled in industry-academia collaboration, with outstanding performance in patents, partnerships, technology transfer, and startups. According to the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, NCKU has achieved a perfect score of 100 in “Industry Income” for four consecutive years since 2021, placing it alongside the world’s top universities. In 2024, NCKU’s industry-academia collaboration funding reached a record-high NT$7.161 billion, while technology transfer licensing revenue hit NT$303 million. Since 2009, the university has surpassed NT$100 million in tech transfer revenue for 16 consecutive years—an achievement unmatched by any other university in Taiwan.
NCKU’s long-term commitment to industry-academia collaboration has been highly recognized. Before its 2020 consolidation, the Innovation Headquarters had already won the “Outstanding Industry-Academia Collaboration Unit” award eight times. In response to the trend and demand for integrating learning and practice, NCKU reorganized multiple units responsible for industry-academia affairs in 2020 to establish the Innovation Headquarters. By consolidating resources, the center has optimized operations and improved performance through diverse initiatives, including creating the GLORIA SOUTH Website, forming the NCKU Medical Alliance, recruiting corporate members, and partnering with companies to establish joint R&D centers. These efforts have effectively bridged the university and industry. The center won its first award post-consolidation in 2021 and continued to secure the honor again in 2023 and 2025, achieving outstanding results that stand out among universities nationwide.
