Six NCKU professors received the Ministry of Education's Teacher Excellence Program award for the 110th academic year
Six professors from National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) were honored with the Ministry of Education's Teacher Excellence Program for the 110th academic year. They include Associate Prof. Li-Wen Sung from the Department of Architecture, Assistant Prof. Wan-Ling Chang from the Department of Industrial Design, Prof. Hsu-Cheng Hsu from the Department of Photonics, Assistant Prof. Meng-Hsueh Li from the College of Bachelor Degree Programs, Prof. Chun-Hao Wang from the Institute of Physical Education, and Prof. Rue-Ron Hsu from the Department of Physics. The awarded professors showcased outstanding performance in various fields ranging from architecture, industrial design, photonics, to physics. Additionally, teaching programs from the Institute of Physical Education and the College of Bachelor Degree Programs were also selected, demonstrating a diverse array of contributions.
Prof. Li-Wen Sung from the Department of Architecture
Course: Architectural Theory Construction and Practice
Project: "Research on Integrating Field Participation into Architectural Theory Construction and Practice Course"
Prof. Sung chose to incorporate theoretical knowledge with practical fieldwork in his curriculum, utilizing data and field surveys to cultivate a more diverse approach to environmental behavioral research among students, allowing them to better understand the developmental context of architectural issues.
Prof. Wan-Ling Chang (Scopus) from the Department of Industrial Design
Course: Human-Centered Information Systems and Interactive Experience Design
Project: "Enhancing Collaborative Competence in Interface Design Development Practice through Mutual Learning"
Prof. Chang introduced the concept of "mutual learning" into participatory design, enabling students to learn from each other's knowledge and perspectives, enhancing teamwork and improving communication and collaboration in interdisciplinary UI/UX design courses.
Prof. Hsu-Cheng Hsu (Scopus) from the Department of Photonics
Course: Playing with Photonics in Daily Life
Project: "General Education Course on Practical Innovation Teaching in Photonics"
Prof. Hsu effectively utilized smartphones as tools in the "Playing with Photonics in Daily Life" course, encouraging students to use their phones to document optical and photonic experiments, access information, upload results, or share them on social media platforms, effectively integrating theory with practical applications and nurturing cross-disciplinary competencies in the classroom.
Assistant Prof. Meng-Hsueh Li from the College of Bachelor Degree Programs
Course: Design Thinking Meets Machine Learning for Laypersons in Epidemic Prevention
Project: "Incorporating Design Thinking and Machine Learning into Covid-19 Quarantine Processes"
Prof. Li incorporated real-world scenarios of the COVID-19 pandemic into the classroom, where students from different disciplines utilized design thinking and machine learning to deconstruct problems and communicate effectively, stimulating dialogue and exchange among students and cultivating problem-solving abilities.
Prof. Chun-Hao Wang (Scopus) from the Institute of Physical Education
Course: Practical Application of Fitness Training and Cognitive Science Principles in Exercise Training
Project: "Cross-Disciplinary Teaching Research on Applying Cognitive Science Principles to Physical Education Courses"
Prof. Wang explored the relationship between exercise and cognitive function in his course, dividing students into two groups to investigate how cognitive science knowledge can optimize training and fitness outcomes.
Prof. Rue-Ron Hsu (Scopus) from the Department of Physics
Course: General Physics
Project: "Constructing General Physics Courses Integrating Lectures, Demonstrations, and Thematic Experiments"
Under Prof. Hsu's guidance, the General Physics course not only focused on theoretical knowledge and skills but also emphasized creative design aspects such as demonstration performances and thematic experiments, receiving positive feedback, including a well-received theme on "Designing, Implementing, and Testing Homemade Battle Tops."
The Ministry of Education's Teaching Practice Research Program awarded a total of 138 projects for the 110th academic year. Please refer to the website for the list of awardees.
