NCKU's College of Social Sciences will showcase the 6th High School Student Learning Results Presentation on the 14th.
National Cheng Kung University’s College of Social Sciences continues its "Leadership and Action" interdisciplinary credit program this year, fostering cross-domain communication and learning between university and high school students. The program combines the leadership abilities of university students with the creativity of high school students, addressing diverse social issues from a humanities and social sciences perspective. This semester, the 6th Annual High School Student Learning Outcomes Presentation will be held on December 14, and all faculty and students interested in social issues and interdisciplinary teaching are invited to join.
This year’s presentation is organized in collaboration with National Tainan Second Senior High School and Catholic Sheng Kung Girls' High School. Starting in August, both schools have been preparing the course exchange content. The exchange was facilitated through a submission-based, self-directed learning approach, resulting in 11 out of 19 submitted groups being matched for collaboration. After three months of both in-person and online interactions, the accumulated learning outcomes will be showcased.
To align with the new curriculum’s multi-dimensional perspective and the concept of self-directed learning, the 11 topics presented cover a wide range of issues, including bilingual education, juvenile delinquency, the consumption drivers of perishable goods, the pros and cons of fast fashion, Me Too gender-related issues, and the relationship between blood types and COVID-19. Through the student projects on display, one can deeply feel the students' concern for current social issues.
As the new curriculum gradually matures, the "Leadership and Action" interdisciplinary credit program aims to extend talent cultivation to the high school level. University students lead high school students in exploring social issues, applying their interdisciplinary skills. Faculty members can observe student growth through mid-term presentations, instructional videos, and outcome displays. Additionally, through collaboration with university students, high school students can gain broader perspectives on social issues they care about, enabling mutual growth that goes beyond the university campus and sparks interdisciplinary exchanges.
