NCKU Soccer Team Claims 5th Place in National Division I — Best Record in Team History with Sports Science Support
National Cheng Kung University’s (NCKU) soccer team delivered an outstanding performance in the 2025 University Soccer League , securing 5th place in the Division I category—marking the best result in the team’s history. This breakthrough achievement not only highlights the team's growing overall strength and excellent teamwork but also reflects NCKU’s long-term efforts in applying sports science, advancing its educational system, and nurturing athletic talent.
Since being promoted to Division I in the 2023 season, NCKU’s soccer team has consistently maintained its standing for three consecutive years, and this season marked its first-ever entry into the national top five—earning recognition across the board for its growing strength. Hsien-Che Huang, Director of the Physical Education Office, has been actively promoting the "AI Sports Science Microprogram," which incorporates artificial intelligence, data analysis, and performance monitoring technologies to enhance training feedback systems and injury prevention—providing athletes with scientific support. At the same time, NCKU has cultivated a supportive learning environment that balances academics and athletics through diverse admissions pathways and academic support systems, enabling student-athletes to fully focus on their competitions.
This year’s team boasts a strong lineup, including national team forward Chen-Ying Yang, who scored 11 goals in a single season, playing a key role in the team’s success and becoming one of the season's highlights. Other current players come from prestigious high schools across the country, such as Tainan First High School, Beimen High School, Huiwen High School, Chien-kung High School, and Taitung High School. These athletes possess both academic potential and athletic prowess, showcasing that NCKU has become a top choice for elite high school athletes nationwide.
NCKU has long been committed to holistic education and interdisciplinary integration, with the soccer team’s success serving as a concrete example of the synergy between academics and athletics. Moving forward, NCKU will continue to drive innovation in sports science and athlete development, aiming to help more outstanding students shine at the university and inject fresh energy into Taiwan’s sports scene. The university will also strengthen the nurturing and connection of grassroots sports talent, deepen collaboration with high schools, and fully promote support systems such as sports data analysis, psychological counseling, and nutrition management. With the goal of not only challenging for the national championship but also cultivating more internationally competitive athletes, NCKU aims to bring greater glory to Taiwan’s sports community.
