To further promote its Admission Recommendation Program for Outstanding Students, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) invited a delegation of 23 principals, vice principals, and guidance counselors from 21 Malaysian high schools to visit the university from June 3 to 6, 2025. On the morning of June 4, the Office of International Affairs hosted an opening ceremony and signing event at NCKU’s Kuang-Fu Campus. The event was attended by the deans of various colleges—including Liberal Arts, Sciences, Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Bioscience and Biotechnology, Social Sciences, and Management—as well as senior administrators from the Office of Student Affairs and the Office of International Affairs.
This marks the second year of the “Malaysian Principals Delegation” initiative. In September 2024, NCKU launched the first-ever “Admission Recommendation Program for Outstanding Malaysian High School Students,” which was met with an enthusiastic response. As of last month, 4 partner schools have already recommended a total of 7 students who successfully gained admission to NCKU through various channels under this program.
At the June 4 opening ceremony, NCKU Vice President Shyy-Woei Chang warmly welcomed the delegation. In his remarks, he highlighted two of the university’s most distinguished strengths in talent cultivation. First, NCKU has strong ties with industry and plays a vital role in national defense technology development. Students receive world-class professional training and are exposed to real-world challenges through industry-academic collaboration. This experience extends far beyond textbook knowledge, enabling students to interact with the industrial sector, tackle cutting-edge technologies, and work in research and interdisciplinary teams. Second, NCKU provides comprehensive support—both administrative and academic—for international students who travel great distances to study in Taiwan. Confident in these advantages, Chang stated, “Our industry-academic partnerships are second to none, and the care we provide to international students surpasses that of Western universities. You can feel assured sending your students to NCKU!”
Following the welcome speech, Vice President for International Affairs Sun-Yuan Hsieh briefed the delegation on NCKU’s latest developments. His presentation covered the university’s history, campus features, diverse learning resources, an overview of Taiwanese society, and the cultural richness of Tainan. Later, at a luncheon, the delegation met with current Malaysian students at NCKU. Many students were delighted to see school leaders from their hometowns and eagerly shared stories of their experiences studying at the university.
Malaysian students account for roughly one-quarter of all international students at NCKU, making them the largest foreign student group. To help these students adapt to life and studies in Taiwan, NCKU has cultivated a welcoming environment and offers generous scholarships and resources. The inaugural Malaysian Principals Delegation in 2024 brought representatives from 19 Chinese independent high schools. This year, the program has expanded to include 21 new partner schools—18 additional Chinese independent high schools and 3 Chinese conforming national-type high schools. Each newly partnered school is granted 2 recommendation slots for outstanding students to apply to NCKU. These students are eligible for tuition waivers and scholarships upon admission.
The two-day visit included a well-organized itinerary curated by Deputy Vice President for International Affairs Shu-Jung Hu. Activities featured campus tours, student meetups, and college-specific introductions presented by deans and faculty members. The delegation also visited NCKU’s Annan Campus, as well as historical and cultural sites in Anping and Chiku. The program aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of NCKU’s educational philosophy, campus environment, and the rich cultural heritage of southern Taiwan—encouraging more outstanding Malaysian students to pursue their studies at NCKU.
